What is the internet?

The Internet is an acronym for Interconnected Network. It is formed by connecting computer networks to each other through special gateways or routers.

The Internet is the sum total of many interconnected computer networks around the world. Which is open to the public and where data is exchanged through an authentic system called IP or Internet Protocol. It is worth mentioning here that although many people consider the Internet and the World Wide Web as synonyms, in reality, the two words indicate different things.

History of internet

The Internet originated from a research project by the US Department of Defense called ‘DARPA’.

It was then called ARPANET, and on January 14, 1969, the first network connection was established between the University of California, Los Angeles, and the Stanford Research Institute. The first international network connection was established on July 25, 1973, with ARPANET communication with the United States at University College London.

In 1973, Bob Kahn and Vint Cerf of ARPANET first developed the Transmission Control Protocol and the Internet Protocol – called TCP/IP. This became the universal language of the Internet in the 1980s. The first TCP/IP test was held in 1975 between Stanford University and University College London. Two years later, TCPIP communications were tested between three networks in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Norway.

The Internet was opened to the public in 1979 by the ISP. From the mid-1990s to the late 1990’s, the Internet became widespread in the West.

On September 22, 1992, the Internet system was launched across Europe in the form of NSFNet – called EBONE. On April 22, 1993, the first web browser, called Mosaic, was launched on the Windows operating system.

Between 1995 and 2005, NSFNet and EBONE were shut down and replaced by interconnected commercial Internet service providers. Then slowly this internet spread all over the world.
